Tonight our model donned a full Darth Vader costume! I was glad to have the opportunity to work from something a little different. Didn't quite finish all the details. Click for full size it is large. Re-organizing the studio tonight and tomorrow to get more use out of the room, then possibly finishing up some pug paintings.

Caustic Cover Critic: Artful Problem-Solving: An Interview with Mick Wiggins
Caustic Cover Critic: Artful Problem-Solving: An Interview with Mick Wiggins
Another great interview from Caustic Cover Critique. I love the last image for Nicola Upson's An Expert in Murder.

Buster Keaton
Here's a new one I'm working on. He had such an interesting face and demeanor, after watching Steamboat Bill Jr. I really wanted to draw him. I love silent film stars, and other entertainers of that era. I sort of just want to leave this one as is, I like its simplicity and translucence but who knows. It is from a sketch turned digital, but maybe I'll make it into a painting instead. Next I want to do Josephine Baker. If I think of a few more maybe I could show them together somewhere. As far as modern entertainers I think I'll do Melora Creager, and possibly The Ditty Bops.

Oh look a body
Finally kind of getting the whole flesh tone thing. We had a fantastic model that I have had years ago, I'm so glad she's coming back in the fall. If I could paint her every day I probably would. The face I blocked in was not to the level as the rest so I cropped it to save you the trouble. Only had time to block in the hand too.

head study
Can't say I was very fond of the model. Fidgety and strange. The full view is huge but worth looking at, I'm not very keen on it as a whole. This class is really forcing me to practice more and more and it has been great for me.

Mad at the sun.
First color head study in oil:
It resembles him but it isn't quite there. Ear is a little too forward feeling and chalky. He was kind of pursed, but I don't think I got it quite right.
Check out his '72 Death Sled, by the way.
